K is for Kindness

Today is Alphabee-Thursday.
That means my blog is brought to you by the letter K.
is for

Yes...kindness.

Doing for others, without being asked.

Kindness use to be one of the main characteristic traits taught to children.
Helping their friend who fell down.
Picking up something someone dropped.
Opening a door for a lady.
Giving your seat to an older person or woman.

Those kinds of deeds are rarely seen anymore.
Now we laugh when someone falls.
People knock things out of others' hands.
They push to get through a door first.....and forget about standing up when a woman or older gentleman enters a room, tram, bus, etc.

It's all for me and none for you in today's society it seems.
I try to teach my children otherwise....to offer things to people
*let them go before you in line
*say something nice about someone each day
*be helpful and courteous without being asked, and without expecting something in return.

But they don't see that modeled as much as I'd like. Not in public, and certainly not on tv.

We need more kindness in this world again.
People need to think of others before themselves.
It shouldn't be "What can I get for myself out of this?"...it should be "How can I help you out today?"

Today I challenge you to Pay it Forward...do for someone without them expecting it.

This is so true. I believe if we had more kindness in the world, we wouldn't have as many problems. Is it just we are in a too fast paced society now, are people just lazy or don't care. It's terrible.
I have been thinking a lot about our cars, and how they have led to the downfall of our society. We no longer have to see people, but we have to drive 30 miles if you want to go to work, buy a shirt and a quart of milk. We've made a terrible trade for that "convenience". We are animals meant to live a 3 mph life and we spend more and more time in metal boxes going 70 mph. And we pollute more than ever, too.

My favorite thing to do is to pay the toll for the person behind us. We don't do it every time, but when we have some extra quarters jingling around in the car, it's fun! Great post, I like what Mumsy said. Being kind doesn't cost a thing! Well, sometimes 75cents :) Kathy

This was a nice post and an excellent reminder. Just today I was thinking that I wanted to try to say one kind thing about every person I meet, every time I see them. Sometimes we get out of the habit of kindness for the sake of kindness.

Kindness is so needed in our world today. It begins at home and is shown in how we treat strangers.
Beautiful K post.

I love this post. It is beautifully written and oh so true.

My post was also about Kindness...something I always think is lacking in the world.

People never know how to respond to these simple words "do you need any help"? And that makes me sad.

I think we are definitely in a little kindness movement here on Alphabe-Thursday and elsewhere in blogland.

Hooray for us all!

Hooray for kindness!

That is so important that my children are kind...that they learn that concept. More parents should focus on that with their kids.
Great post.

I love Random Acts of Kindness", a kind of pay it forward. Thanks for reminding me of this concept although I hope I do it second-nature.
