Flashback Fridays: Birthdays
If you've read me very long at all, you know that my familiy celebrates everything.
The smallest event turns into a grand celebration. Any reason to break out the good china!
Growing up birthdays were always a big deal.
Not in the *spend lots of money on ponies and clowns* way...but in the "make the birthday honoree feel special* way.
My mom would prepare the guest of honor's favorite meal, we'd eat off the good china, and there was always cake!
Still is!
As for guests, there was always a family celebration, and then later a "party" with our friends. Growing up, my grandparents rarely made it to family birthdays b/c we lived many states away from both sets. We are in Arkansas, they are in Kentucky and Nebraska. BUT...that's not to say we didn't have local grandparents. We are the kind of people that just "monitor and adjust"...we make do with what's available.
We adopted a set of grandparents...a couple from our church, about 20 yrs older than my parents...with 2 children of their own that were teens when I was a kid.
They are who we stayed with when my brother would go into the hospital (he was a sickly boy). They went to our church and just took us in.
They are 2 of my favorite people in the entire world...The Millers.
Anyway....their son, Alan, and I had birthdays 2 days apart.
He was 10 yrs older than I, so we always tended to get lumped together for a family birthday dinner. They WERE family afterall!!
Mom would make one cake and decorate one half for me and one half for Alan.
We use to laugh about it...but now, those are precious memories to me.

*Here we are celebrating our 11th/21st birthday.
Look at my little sister hoggin the pic! lol
Yes..birthdays were/are a big deal in our family.
I personally think my mom just likes to party!! Cake is her drug of choice!
I hope my children will someday look back at their own birthday memories as fondly as I do. I hope I've given them the happy times of childhood that I was able to experience!

Peace & Love,

P.S. Restrictions since my gall bladder removal? Really have to watch fat intake since the gall bladder is what breaks fats down. Other than that, no other changes. And geez, do I ever feel better since having it out!
aren't little sisters fun...
We continue to get together as a family for every birthday even though our kids are in their 30's and have their own. It's a wonderful opportunity to connect & fellowship regularly.
