Flashback Friday: Prom Memories

ahhh...that wonderful time of year!
May is so full of promises...graduations, end of the school year, (a wedding for me!)
But it's also so full of love!
Spring has sprung, and the faint music of golden oldie love songs waft through the air. It's PROM Month!

I remember proms. I went to 4 during my highschool experience.
Well...3 official proms and one psuedo-prom.

1982: My 9th grade year I was dating Scott. He was a junior at a different school. We did not go to his prom, but rather went to an "alternate prom" sponsored by his church and several other churches in our area. He was a Church of Christ member and they hosted some sort of thing at the CoC college several towns over..a lock in thing.
I had to borrow a dress...and hated it. Yellow...knit..but it was all we could come up with. I don't remember much about that night (which was 30 years ago now) but I'm sure it was fun.

1983: My sophomore year I wound up going to Prom at another school with a friend. Borrowed a dress again. We didn't stay long...his dad was in the hospital, and I remember going to visit him. Not a lot sticks out in my mind other than that.

1984: Then came MY prom, junior year. I was on the decorating committee, too.
Stairway to Heaven was our theme.
I had a steady beau. And he was in college!!
It was great!
(all except for the bad perm I had)
I'm thinking we might have actually bought this dress.

1985: my senior year
The theme was "One More Night" (Phil Collins)
I didn't date anyone seriously all year. Finding a prom date was no easy task.
I didn't get asked by anyone at my school (not a big surprise...I never dated anyone from my school...well, except this one time my soph year, but that's a whole nother story for a different Flashback entry)
We'd had a revival at church several weeks before a one of the girls at my church had brought some college friends with her. There was a cute guy in that group.
I got her to fix me up with him for my prom.
It was ok..he was shy. I don't even think I got a kiss at the end of the night tho.
But we had fun. (had to borrow this dress, too tho!)

yeh...memories. Lots of good ones.
So very long ago.
I see pics now of kids going to prom...so lavish, so extravagant.
But they still look beautiful, and it's just as magical for them as it was "back in the day".
I always just pray, each year, that they all stay safe.

I love your pictures. I look at my girls prom pics and their clothes seem so much more elegant and less dated than what we wore a few decades ago. I feel like they will be able to look at their prom pics without laughing when they look back in a few years.

This was fun! I shared mine too.

I love your prayer and beautiful photos! I think the pink dress in 1984 is my favorite. Have a wonderful weekend.

This was a fun post..brought back lots of memories for me...and more recent memories of my sons though all three are 25+. Their dates looked far more glamourous than we did in my day.

I loved seeing all your prom pictures! You look so pretty! I think it's smart to borrow a dress, since no one at your school has seen it. I borrowed my Junior year Prom dress.

I wish I had my pictures of my prom, but they are all at my mom's house...in another state! Love yours!

I love seeing the different dresses! It makes me sad that you can hardly find a formal dress with shoulders in it any more.

wow you went to so many. Lucky you. I went to one and it was my senior prom & all of us girls ditched the boys and went alone. WE had the best time.
I attended a Christian High school.
I'm having a giveaway today at my blog if you can stop by.

Fun pictures. I never went to prom--Harvest Moon one year at OBU was the closest I got!
