F is for Facebook Friends

Today is Alphabee-Thursday. That means my blog is brought to you by the letter F.
is for
"Hi. My name is Robin. And I'm a Facebook Addict".
(Hi Robin!)
Yes...I'm one of THOSE people.
oh stop rolling your eyes at me!! It's fun, it's harmless, it's good for the soul!
sure it takes up more time than I care to admit...but at least I'm not spending all my online time surfing for porn! Not even for midget porn...which a friend tells me is pretty darn funny.
(for the record...I detest porn...a major sore spot from my divorce days)
anywho...back to the topic at hand...
or fingertips, rather...
I <3 Facebook.
I have about 600 friends on there.
And yes..I know almost every one of them personally! (there *are* a couple that are friends of friends that wanted to be my friend....I'm just now getting to know them. And I do count my bloggy friends as friends I know!)
People from my childhood, from college, from places I've worked, family members that I never got to know growing up because we lived so far away from all of them...
It's been amazing reconnecting with old friends.
Just in the past week I've reconnected with an old neighbor I went to school with and his sister. They lived behind us...a sweet Japanese family. The girl was a year older than her brother and I. There was also a little sister the same age as my little sister.
We use to play Barbies together for hours..(the older sister and I), and their mother would make us some sort of friend bread that we would spread cake frosting on.
My friend's brother, the one I went to school with, contacted me on FB. We caught up...they moved away from Arkansas my senior year. I found out they are now in NYC...he went to Cornell and has a beautiful family now. His older sister is a pastry chef at 2 restaurants in NYC. The family still remembers things we all did as neighbors. The sister I played with then contacted me on there.
It's been neat catching up with them.
And old college friends I haven't seen in the 20 years since graduating!! I love reconnecting with them...and connecting for the first time with cousins my age whom I only saw once every 5 years or so, for about a day or so, at a reunion. We are closer now than ever..getting to know each other like I wish we could have back then.
Technology is great...bringing people closer together.
Of course there IS one drawback to Facebook......
*my mother is on there*
yes.....it's not always a good thing for her to be there.
ya see...she can't quite always "get" what's goin on.
I like to post "funny" status messages... it's just my personality.
And my 16 yr old son likes to post song lyrics that fit whatever mood he's in.
My mom doesn't always understand that these things aren't "real".
She'll comment on things....and I'll think, "mo-om..." and roll my eyes behind this computer monitor.
Or she'll post personal stuff on our walls...instead of emailing or at least sending a message noone else can see.
She's got a lot to learn...
but overall..it's just fun for me. I love it.
It's a great way to keep in touch with people you care about. To re-establish friendships, to socialize when your life doesn't allow you to be out and about very much.
So...if you read me here...and are not already one of my Facebook friends...feel free to add me! I'd love to get a chance to get to know you better!!
There's a widget over there ----------------->
somewhere....on the right side of my posts...at the top...
(oh, and I Twitter, too! heehee)
Yes..F is for Facebook..and for Friends.

I joined once, for 15 minutes and canceled my membership. It was creepy for me.
I sat with an FBer for an hour watching what they do...and I still didn't get it.
I'm old. I know. ;)
I waste too much time on there, too.
Happy Thursday!
have a great alphabe-thursday!!
That is cool about meeting up with your old neighbor after all these years!
A+ for a F un F post!
