Tales from the ER

Well..I guess an update is in order since I last left you with me running off into the night to the Emergency Room.

Yes..after posting that John had called to say he was taking Trey to the ER for dislocating his shoulder again, Trey called, crying, asking me to meet them in Hot Springs. He wanted me there.
So...with no makeup on, no clothes on (yes, I know it was 5pm, but I'd been cleaning all day), and still bummed about the stupid Christmas tree fiasco, I flew into Manic Mom Mode and got our stuff together to head to Hot Springs.

Now mind you..HS is about 70 miles away.
We had not packed up the kids to go back to their dad's the next day.
I had to do something with Maggie.
I had groceries waiting to be made into a casserole for the next day's brunch.

So...I threw on clothes, yelled at the M&Ms to pack up their own clothes, sent Molly to the storage building for my overnight bags to pack my OWN clothes for an unplanned stay at my parents', called THEM to let them know what was going on and to make sure they had room for us to stay overnight, called Greg to tell him what was happening, and ask if I could bring Maggie over for the night, threw all the hashbrown casserole ingredients into a cooler with icepacks all around and got everything organized.

I loaded the car with Maggies crate and stuff, our bags, the cooler, and we headed out. I ran thru Dairy Queen to pick up supper for Greg and the kids (since I'd promised to cook that night.) Didn't want them to starve!

I kept in touch with John on the status of their ER visit. They had made it to Hot Springs (35 miles for them) in the time it took me to get all that stuff ready and had already been triaged, waiting to see a doctor.
I told him that if they were finished by the time I got to Arkadelphia, I'd just turn to come to Glenwood and meet them back there rather than going on to Hot Springs.

Well....
they waited and waited...and I drove and drove..
They were taken back for xrays before I got there.
They were taken into a room before I got there...
But I made it there right before the doctor came in to tell us what the xrays showed.

It was out of socket all right!
They were gonna have to sedate him to pop it back in.

This is where it got good.
Of course it was now about 8:45 pm...yes, nearly 4 hours since the first call...and Trey had not eaten since 10am that morning.
We thought the propofol would make him nice and sedated...they even thought it would knock him out!
He got the usual 100 ccs...
nothing.

She gave him more...
he kept talking.

The doctor ordered another dose...slowly administered...
Trey kept commenting on what they were doing. That poor nurse kept saying she could not believe he was still lucid!

by the time it was over, they'd given him 270 ccs of the propofol, and even tho he never did comepletely pass out, he was "out of it enough" for them to manipulate his shoulder back into place. In fact, they overshot it and it slipped back BEHIND the socket and they had to repull it out!

Trey felt it..but he was loopy enough to not care.

After all was said and done, the doctor and male nurse left the room and our main nurse was checking things out...and we heard Trey singing from under his oxygen mask!! SINGING!

We laughed!

I got to asking her about how much medicine they'd given him, and when she said 270, Trey piped in with "That's a biiiiig number!"

I told her she shoulda used an elephant gun, to which Trey replied, "Elephants are coooooool."

yeh..we laughed at him.

And took pics!

I wanted to pull out my Flip camera and video him, but decided to be the nice mom and not do that!
But we all had a good laugh....
and still are!

The doctor came back and told us to follow up with an orthopedic, so Trey now has an appointment Monday afternoon with yet ANOTHER doctor. This one is in Hot Springs. We've decided to schedule surgery (which I'm sure the doctor will reccommend.) Hopefully we can get it done over Christmas break.
I hate that..but if it's gonna keep popping out, from just raising his arm up in the air and bringing it back down, then something needs to be done.

So...when all was said and done, we got out of the ER about 10pm...ran through McD's to get ME something to eat. Since the adrenaline had worn off, I was hungry. Then we headed to Glenwood to start our Thanksgiving celebration a little early. It was 11:30 by the time we got settled in. My brother, SIL, and niece were there sleeping...and the morning would come soon enough. Then the holiday would begin.

I've got lots of pics to share from that day...
But for now I need to find a stuffed elephant to go in his Christmas stocking!

Man, our kids keep us young in some ways and make us OLD real fast in other ways. I assure you EVERY one of my gray hairs is compliments of my kiddos. **uggh**

Glad to hear he's doing okay, and the stuffed elephant for his stocking is a GREAT idea!
