The first full week at school since Christmas!

Yep...this was the first actual week I've been to school all 5 days since Christmas. With snow days, holidays, and surgery for Dad.... We've had strange schedules.
Maybe that's why this week seemed so LOOOOOOOOOONG!!!

WAITING FOR SUPERMAN
I had to skip tutoring today to make up the Book Study session I missed last Thursday while at the hospital with my dad.
We watched "Waiting for Superman".

(sorry it's an online pic, not my own)
It's about education in America.
Very informational and enlightening.
It made me mad, it made me sad.
It inspired me to make a bigger difference in the lives of my students.

Haven't seen one of these tasty sugary treats since childhood.

TURNING THE PAGE ON THE CALENDAR

Well here we are again...another month into this new year. The days go by faster and faster it seems.
This month doesn't look near as busy....yet.
Tutoring has ended as of today. That frees up Monday and Tuesday afternoons.
And after this month, Book Study on Thursdays will end.
Maybe it's time to stop and take a breath.

Oh wait..just remembered a social engagement I need to add to that calendar.
I'm sure more of those moments will happen, too.
So no expectations of lazy days!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DR. SEUSS

The Cat in the Hat came to visit us today.
Every year, my Junior Auxiliary group does a project for Read Across America week where we give a book to every 1st grader in our county. There are 6 primary/elementary schools I believe...and 200 1st graders in my buiding alone...so that's a lot of books! One of the ladies dresses up as The Cat in the Hat, and another reads a story to the kids, and we give the books to them.
It's always so much fun. And for some kids...it's the only book they can call their own! Just another reason I love being a part of this organization.

BOOK STUDY DAY
We are reading and discussing this Donna Whyte book.

If you teach, and have never read her...you must. She's fabulous! We took her seminar in Las Vegas last summer, and then had her at our school. WONDERFUL!!!!

I'VE BEEN TWEETED!
We were given this book to start reading as well,

even tho we won't have time to read it for Book Study (b/c it will end at the end of this month.) We've already read another of his books...

and it was great...very motivational.
I started reading this one, and decided to see if he was on Twitter. He was!
I tweeted him...
@ToddWhitaker I was just given Teaching Matters for our school book study. After reading What Tchrs Do Difrntly, I can't wait to start it.

ToddWhitaker @robinbobo Hi. Let me know what you think. I had a good coauthor on that one!

I was so excited!
I told my principal about it and she told me to see if we could get him to come to our school...so I asked.
@ToddWhitaker any chance we could get you down to Hope, Arkansas sometime?

ToddWhitaker@robinbobo It would be a treat. Just let me know when. I will even shower that day!

I let my principal know and she said she'd contact him.
He gave me his contact info....and now I feel special.
I've been tweeting with someone "famous" LOL

Saturday, March 5
TOTAL DOMINO DOMINATION

I wound up scoring 1000 pts, to his 710!

So that was my exciting week.
Dad is on the mend. He came home Wednesday night. Still cath'ed but has an appt with the Urologist tomorrow morning (Monday). Mom was livid b/c she found out he is smoking again. He only smokes 5 or 6 a day (or was, before the gall bladder surgery), but she had hoped he wouldn't do it when he got home. I knew he would. She's heartbroken tho.

Greg's mom had minor knee surgery this week, too. She's doing fine.
Hopefully that's all the dr. stuff we have to deal with for awhile.

And now that tutoring has ended, hopefully I'll have a little more down time now.
We'll see!
Have a great week y'all!
