X is for eXcited!

Today is Alphabee-Thursday.

That means my blog is being brought to you today by the letter X, and
is for .

I am very excited this morning because we are leaving for vacation.

It's Family Reunion Time.
My mother's family (her mother's really), gets together every 5 years.
We meet up in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, which is where they started from before some moved to Ohio, Indiana, Florida, and of course us in Arkansas.

I've mentioned before that growing up I did not get to see my grandparents and extended family much because we did live so far away from both sides of family. I don't know my cousins all that well, and reunions have always been a little awkward, altho we do manage to have fun.

But this year I'm more excited because....thanks to Facebook...I've gotten to know several of my cousins, and their spouses, better and now I can't wait to see them in person!

And of course we are all older, married, with children of our own, so that keeps us full of stories to share.

We meet at my great-aunt/uncle's "farm" for all the meals and hanging out time.

It's decorated all in CocaCola stuff

and has a pond for fishing in

and my uncle sometimes gives hayrides

and of course there's the hotel where most everyone stays...

(I call this picture, from 2005, Cousin Soup)

and a good time is had by all.

We shop and explore the area during the day.... (it's outside Ft. Campbell, KY, where the 23rd Airborne division is stationed. My dad was stationed there, which is how he met my mother!)
...and meet up at the barn at night for meals and visiting and games.
(or you can hang out there all day..but it gets kinda hot.)

So...yes, I'm excited about going, and seeing my grandmother, and my aunts and uncles and greats, and cousins.

It's about a 500 mile trip, but my kids are usually good riders.
and now my oldest son can help with some of the driving!!

So...I won't be around this weekend, and you'll have to wait til at least Tuesday for my Project 365 report!
I'll be spending my holiday weekend with family.

And it made me rethink attending our family reunions as well. I am inspired to attempt this in 2011.

I want to be head to a reunion just like you.

Can I come?

OK, just kiddin' but that red and white is so happy.

OH! Hey! I am real eXcited for you! And also eXcited cuz, Ft Campbell was home to our family for 6 years! Before we moved here to Georgia!!! What a small world.

My hubby flew Apaches with the 101st. and had back to back 3 year assignments at Ft. Campy, so that is why we lived there 6 years. We love to drive through there and see old friends. Our daughters and son in law went to UofL for undergrad (both homecoming queens), then all three went for post graduate (to UK dental and UK medical school) and our son is still there for undergrad at UK...and our younger daughter was a Derby princess! So KY is where my hubby and I would love to move to!

Sorry such a long comment!
Blessings & Aloha!
(slightly late with getting to the X posts...I'd love if you are able to check mine out :o)

Have a safe and wonderful July 4th! Enjoy your family reunion!

This sounds so neat. It's good that because of the Internet you get to get closer to your relatives now. Have fun. Great X post.

I love Facebook for this very reason - connecting with long lost friends and relatives!

So glad for you and all your family! Do have an eXcellent time with your peeps. I'm a little jealous as my family is tiny and we see each other all the time. No need for reunions..........
