Since we last spoke..

or rather, since you last read me...
School has started and all the usual crazy chaos that involves!

Matt started at his new school and LOVES it!
Molly started at the elementary across town, and LOVES it!
I have no more of my own babies at my school!

Our class sizes this year are bigger. We've gone from 18 per class to 24 per class and it's really messing with us! I have taught 25 in a class, with no aide, in the past, but lots of our teachers have not. They are freaking out! And that many bodies in one room really is NOT conducive to learning! I don't care what the state says. 25 is too many. 18 is the max that should be allowed...and 15 would be perfect!

But noone asks me, or other professionals who might actually have some insight to the way things really work in the classroom!

The kids are here with me this weekend. We did a lot of nothing yesterday. Drove to Texarkana in search of posters for Trey to hang on his wall..rock bands he likes.
Found nothing. If we'd wanted marijuana posters and sex posters, we would've hit the motherload, but ummm...noooooooooo...I don't think so!

We rented movies and watched them together, too.
And now it's time to take the boys back.
Then I'm picking up my mom and we are driving from Glenwood to Ashdown (about 2 hours) to hear some old friends of our's perform at a church there. Mike and Faye Speck have a ministry. They tour the country singing. He writes music, too..has several choral books out and they have quite a few cds, too. We've known them for over 20 years. Wonderful people. He use to preach, but I think they just sing now.
It will be a blessing to see them again.

Then Molly and I will drive back home..about 45 minutes or so.
We will be tired, but what else is new.
I worked at school for 3 hours this morning to get things ready for tomorrow. Didn't get it all done..but "good enough". Will have to look over the actual lessons I'm teaching later tonight...that might be good to know!

Guess that's about it.
Trey is suppose to have an MRI tomorrow, if they will do it without making us pay the copay up front. Say a prayer!
I've got to remember to cancel my root canal for Tuesday, too.

So..it's a new year. And I haven't posted here since..umm..May. I have been thinking of deleting this blog..or at least all the entries in it, and starting over. Maybe a school blog. I see tons of cute ones everyday when I'm perusing pinterest. I could do that. maybe. no...probably not. But I might try. This place did not turn out the way I wanted it to. I have my personal "diary" blogs/journals elsewhere. This one is too public for that anymore. I should make it something fun. I don't want to lose it. Erica made it so cute for me. I don't even know how to do that... or, for that matter, delete the entries I have here. I can't find the "dashboard" button that use to be there. hmmmm.. This may take more time than I thought.

C is for Crayon

Today is Alphabe-Thursday. That means my blog is brought to you by the letter C...so let's get right down to it. is for ahhh...the simplicity of crayons! An essential tool in my profession, and yet such a vital part of our lives. Crayons have the ability to color our world. They add life to simple drawings, brighten up the darkest of pictures, and create rainbows on rainy days. After completing a writing assignment my students will often ask...."Do we have to draw a picture?" "Of course you do!! And use your crayons!" I will reply. And then the real feelings of their topic show through. Without color, how dull our lives would be. No yellow sunshiny days. No pink cotton candy. No blue skies and green grass. Lollipops would be tasteless and lemonade would be just water. The fashion industry would go bust and movies would not be worth seeing. Crayons add life. They add spirit. And they make me smile.
