June 26-July 3 Home is where it's at

Another week with the kids here...not a lot of running around. Mostly staying home...but fun nevertheless

WE HAVE KITTIES
My stepson, Alex, has 2 cats, Crash--a male orange tabby, and Pixie--a siamese looking female. They are brother and sister, and just over a year old. He brings them with him every Friday when he comes for the weekend (he's here Fri-Monday of one week, and Fri-Tuesday of the next, alternating...still at nearly 21, just like he always has).
Anyway...Friday, we were talking about how fat Pixie was looking, and in jest, saying, "I hope she's not pregnant!"...well, guess what..SHE WAS!
Sunday evening, she crawled in behind Alex's bottom dresser drawer, which he took out, and had 3 baby kittens.

WHAT? DOESN'T EVERYONE CARRY A CHEESEBURGER IN THEIR PURSE?

Today, our new JA President, (and friend, and even my vice-principal)and I went around to the businesses that had given us monetary donations for Junior Auxiliary, and presented them with certificates of appreciation. Her 5 yr old son went with us, and when we finished, we ate lunch together at McDonald's (he has fine culinary taste like mine!) I couldn't eat all my lunch, so I took part home to give to one of my own kids!

PICK-N-POKE NIGHT
(formerly known as Pick Your Favorite Leftover Night)

We'd been grilling so much over the weekend and even Monday night that it was time to do a leftover night. There were ribs, steaks, shishkabobs, burger, hotdogs....I wound up with a piece of steak, some grilled pineapple and squash, and for the something new to add to dinner...we had pears with cheese.

CAN'T WALK AND CHEW BUBBLEGUM AT THE SAME TIME, NOW CAN YA?
On my morning walk today, I fell prey to one of my klutzy moments.
I was just walking down the street, minding my own business, not even trying to read Facebook or email, just walking, when I guess my toe caught the edge of the uneven sidewalk, and down I came...on all fours...SPLAT!! right on the sidewalk.
Of course the first thing I did was assess that nothing was broken or bleeding...then in the next second, I looked around to see if anyone saw me! Nope...*phew!*
I got up, and was sore...palms burning from being scraped. Knee stinging and sore, also I assumed from being scraped, but I continued one. I wasn't even half finished with my route..had to complete the first 2 miles, then turn around and walk the 2 miles back home.
Which I did.
And when I got home...I surmised the damages....

OW!!! What a goose-egg!

I didn't realize I'd done that!
So...ibuprofin and elevation for most of the rest of the day.

A DAY OUT
The kids and loaded up about lunchtime, dropped Greg off at work (cuz he still can't drive yet) and headed to the city for some lunch and shopping. Besides getting Alex the things he wanted for his birthday, I scored some stuff for school. I've decided to take down all my Star stuff (we were the Superstars) and use this cute Monster stuff.

(But I've got to come up with a cute "name" for us. We can't be "Mrs. Bobo's Little Monsters"! Just don't think I could get away with that!)

YARD SALE DAY/ALEX'S BIRTHDAY
This turned out to be a big picture day.

We got up early to have our yardsale. I advertised it for 8am..but of course people started showing up at 6:30.

By 1pm the temperature was 101 degrees, so we started packing up. I did ok..made about $270...all on piddly little stuff.

We bagged up nearly everything that was left and took it to a neighbor's house. She is having a yard sale next Saturday for her church's mission trip to Belize & was asking for donations. She was so thrilled to see me coming!

My knee was looking ever-so-purty! (Day 3 of the bruise!)

Then..after a shower, it was time to fix Alex's bday supper.
We were smoking a brisket, and I made twice baked potatoes to go with it, but he had requested something different when I'd asked the day before, so I prepared it as well...pigs-n-a-blanket, with chili and cheese.

Actually..they weren't too bad.

He opened presents...then had a celebratory toast with his dad.

(we got so tickled that the first thing he did when he got up was drive to the county line to buy some beer..just cuz he could!----we live in a dry county, you have to go to the next county to get alcholic beverages)

But one of the funnier moments of the day was a trick played on poor Matthew.
He had fallen asleep in the recliner while I was fixing supper.
Unbeknownst to him...and me...his brother and sister took advantage of this opportunity to decorate him!

(how ironic he happened to have this shirt on at the time!)
Luckily for THEM, it was washable marker and came right off, so even tho he wasn't thrilled with what they'd done...I didn't have to punish them!

Sunday- again, July 3
DINNER AT OUR HOUSE
Sine all the kids were here and would be leaving this afternoon, we had Sunday dinner at our house instead of at the MIL's. As you know we usually go over to her house on Sundays, and we did last week, with all the kids in tow, but Greg wanted to smoke some chicken and feed everyone here. So we did.
There was leftover brisket, too...and what a spread we put out.

That man has learned his way around the grill, and loves cooking on it. So I let him!

Alex brought the kitties out for everyone to see. They are a week old now. The mama cat is pretty good about letting us hold them for a few minutes.

They're so cute....but we aren't keeping any!

By the time we finished dinner, the kids' dad was here to get them. They will be gone for 3 weeks, with one weekend visit in there, so it's gonna be awfully quiet around here. Well...this week at least. The following 2 weeks they are gone will be full of school days and doctor appointments, so I won't be lonely. But for today...it's just me and Greg, eating leftovers, and doing pretty much nothing all day.
I wish you all a happy, do what you want kinda day!
