love, slime, and fires

I've decided that, even tho I like doing the picture a day type entries, it looks a little formal for my taste, so I'm gonna reformat and share my days, including pictures, more my way.

UP ON THE HOUSETOP.....
Before going home, the boys were given some outside chores to do.
Matthew got to clean gutters,

and Trey got to sweep all the sticks and leaves off the top of the roof.

Molly wasn't left out either. She got to clean the carport.

Then off to take the boys back to their new house.
Is it petty and shallow of me to wish their new home was nicer? I mean....it's WAY better than the old run down trailer they were living in for the past lotsa years. But still... sometimes when I think about my childhood home, and all the memories of those years come back, I think about the homes my children will recall when they are grown. How I wish they could've been better. Not that the home I grew up in was extravagant or anything. It wasn't. Just a middle class, 3 br/1 ba house, not even nearly as nice as some of my friends..but it was a good home. And the places they've lived with their dad....he's a good dad. But I just wish they could've had more. From me as well. Is that bad?

VALENTINES DAY
This day was full of excitement!
Peach roses, (like the ones delivered to me anonymously 6 years ago, by my now husband, before we even met) arrived at school early that morning.

Then there was the Valentine party...always lots of fun!

bubbles and balloons...what more could a kid want?

The partying continued during tutoring. My 10 students were wound up but we played math games to keep them at least learning a little something.
Greg bought Valentine's Dinner at our fave Mexican place to eat while vegging out on the couch. Ahhhh....it was a great day!

BIEBER FEVER

The BookIt program sponsored a "bedtime story" reading of the Cat in the Hat by every little girl's heartthrob, Justin Bieber.
Me, being the cool teacher I am, showed it to my class.
The website had all sorts of activities you could do with the story, too.
The girls were ecstatic and the boys even liked it.

After tutoring, I came home and threw together a meal to take to the church family my Sunday School class cooks for. It was my turn again. Then we ran through Sonic for OUR supper! Got home in time to watch NCIS at 7:00....so it was a good day!

BACK TO NORMAL
No interruptions or special programs today.
It was a good day all around I think.
My special princess even earned a treasure for her behavior.

Had a Literacy meeting after school then took Molly to church at 5:30, and I went back at 7:30 for choir....then home at 8:45 to start laundry and supper. A long day, but a good one.

GOT SLIME?
As part of the Scholastic Book Fair, the librarians sponsored a competition to raise money for books to put in each classroom. The children and faculty brought in change to vote for which principal they'd like to see get slimed. (We have an Asst. Principal over Kinder-1st, an Asst. Principal over 2nd-4th, and a head principal....who "won" the honor of getting slimed.)

It was also Parent-Teacher Conferences day...so yes, another long day.
I only had 10 of my 18 show up this time. But I did see the 2 main ones I wanted to talk to, so that counts for something!

NO SCHOOL but a DRIVE TO GLENWOOD
We always get the day after P/T conferences off, since staying til 7:30pm somehow counts as 2 workdays or something.
Molly and I had lunch and hit the Walmart in Arkadelphia (my old college town that is about halfway between here and her dad's, if you go that route). I picked up the boys from school, checked on the lab results from Trey's tests, which weren't in, then dropped the kids off at their house.
Then I stopped by my parent's to see how my dad was. Mom had posted on Facebook earlier that morning that he was having a rough go of it, but he was feeling better when I saw him.

When I got back into town, I picked up Greg, who'd just gotten in from taking HIS mom to the Orthopedic surgeon for an MRI on her knee (she twisted it awhile back and it's not getting better), and we "went to check the river" (code for went to the liquor store..since we have to cross the county line to get anything which is at the river about 12 miles down the highway), then stopped by his cousin's house to visit before heading home.

They lit a fire in their new "firepit" Glenn made for his wife Jessica, and we sat around outide visiting and playing with their 2 yr old grandboy.
It was a very nice relaxing evening.

***oh, wait...I forgot to tell you about Trey's tests....
Well..see...Trey has this problem that we want to find out about. His thighs are ENORMOUS...very large, and even as a big boy goes, they are disproportionate to the rest of his body.
John took him in Monday to see if maybe it was a Thyroid problem or something, and find out what we can do about it.
When they took his blood pressure, it was very high... 169/96, so they wanted him to come back the next morning to draw blood to run a bunch of tests on, and told us that we may need to set up an appointment at Arkansas Children's Hospital, depending on what the tests show.
Well...now we'll have to wait til Monday...if they are even open on the holiday. When I got there Friday afternoon, they had the results in, but the girl who reads them hadn't read them, but if she did before they closed, they'd call one of us. If not, it would be Monday before we knew anything.
No call. grrrrrr
So we are still waiting to see what is going on with my 17 year old son. *sigh*

QUIET LAZY DO NOTHING DAY
The kids were gone.
Greg went to work.
I laid around catching up on missed episodes of Glee online, and then watching my Grey's and Private Practice on the dvr.

Miss Maggie stayed in my lap the whole time I was at the computer. While I was watching Glee episodes, she was watching the cats across the street.

I did get dressed long enough to go to the butcher's to get some ribeyes cut so we could grill for supper. The weather has been wonderful this week....in the high 60s and low 70s (quite a change from the 20s-30s of last week) and I was ready for some steak, so we woke up that grill from its long winter's nap, and put it to work for us.
MMMM...good eats!
This...

led to this....

and after that was done, we did a little this....

and I WON!

Definitely a good day!

So, as you can see...it's been a pretty dang good week.
I sang a solo in church today, and am off school again tomorrow for President's Day.
Molly's not due to come back home til either tomorrow night, or Tuesday morning (he'll take her to school), so it should be another peacefully quiet day.

Just hope we get Trey's tests results then, too!

I am really wondering what is up with Trey, Rob. Be sure to let me know...that is high b/p and the deal with his thighs is odd, too. Has he gained all of his weight back?

Your steak dinner looks yummy...now I'm getting hungry for a steak dinner, myself. lol

Oh, and it's not bad of you to want better for your kids...it's what we all want for our kids. *Hugs*

Peace & Love,
~Barb~

I see this one comment on the very last post, but none of the others have it. So strange.
