So that was the weekend...

Three days of shirking responsibilities...too bad it's over!
Don't I wish?
Don't you?
Ever wish you could just stop being the mom? the plan maker? the plan carrier-outer?
Who planned the holiday meal?
Who shopped for it?
Who made sure we had fireworks?
Who made sure we had festive clothes to wear?
Who cleaned up after it was all over?
I was watching Weeds yesterday, and Nancy (the main character) said, "I love my kids, they are my life, but sometimes I just wish I didn't have kids, that I could just be free...free to do whatever I wanted."
(yeh..that was a paraphrase...but you get the jist)
Of course she then went on to feel guilty for saying it...but c'mon. We've all felt that at some point, haven't we?
Somewhere between the PTO meetings and Church festivities, and the civic duties, and Girl Scouts and Youth Group, and taking care of not only my family, but my significant other's family as well...
yeh...I have to say that the thought of packing a bag, jumping in the car and driving 6 hours to somewhere was tempting.
Getting away from "but I don't like THAT kind of potato salad", and "MOM!! He ate all the deviled eggs!!", and "Why can't we get the BIG firework box, Mom? This 4th is gonna suck."
*sighs*
But...alas..this is my life.
And I do what I can with what I have.
So today...my offspring and I will run errands, find sustenance for our bellies, and then take advantage of a sunny day by lying in the sun and splashing in the cool water.
That is, if they can ever get off their lazy butts and pick up all their crap that is lying around the house!
As much as I'd like my life to mirror the that of the carefree Carrie Bradshaw, or Susan on Desperate Housewives who has the neighborhood network, or have Claudia Joy's marriage.....
it is what it is...and it's actually pretty darn good.
If I could just get Alice's number from Carol Brady.
Then my life would be complete!!

Anyway, to add pics to your entries, look at the tool bar at the top of the entry header as you're writing it. See the little picture icon up there? Click it and it'll walk you through either linking to it or uploading it, your choice. Make sense?
And I know what you mean about the thing Nancy said on "Weeds." I've felt that way myself...more often than I care to admit. We all have. If only momentarily. *sigh*
I miss you, too!
I hate doing floors.
